Another Year Over….

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — maggie mathern @ 12:28 pm

and a New One about to begin…sigh…

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and got spoilt by that jolly old man in his red suit…I sure did.  As one year draws to a close and the next one comes in, it is a time of great reflection in our lives.  Have we achieved what we set out at the beginning of the year to do?  Did our resolutions last longer than a week LOL   This has happened to me before *rolling eyes*.

I have been thinking about this  a lot lately and I expressed this same thing in Elite Stampers forum today.  We really should celebrate everyday that we are still here and able to experience life…waking up in the morning is something we take for granted…it often takes major illness or death of someone we love or whom is really young to wake us up to this fact.

I have decided to express my gratitude for the “little” things in life more this next year and it is time I actually made my gratitude album…which will be a work in progress over the whole of 2009.

I think I also need to be kinder to myself…I tend to think I should be able to do the impossible…I don’t expect this of anyone else, so why should I have to live up this standard?

That and getting off my butt and getting more fit/healthy…ok….guess this has just become a New Year’s resolution.  What is on your list of things to achieve next year?

Ok, will be back tomorrow as I am heading off to work now.

Twas The Night Before Christmas….

Filed under: Christmas — Tags: — maggie mathern @ 11:10 pm

thought I would share this new version of the poem that a friend sent to me recently.  It is just so apt for a few people I know out there…and just to clarify…this has no reflection on me whatsoever…nup…not I LOL

Twas the night before Christmas, I’m glued to the tree

I’m wondering what Santa brought just for me

Could it be cardstock or chipboard or lace?

Or a Cricut, I said, with a smile on my face

And that’s when I heard him,
 “Hi Santa, ” I said

“You know…. good little girls should be in their beds.”

“I know I should Santa
 and now I’ve been caught,

But I was just so excited
 to see what you brought.”

“Well, let’s take a look
in this room where you work.

He shook his head quickly,
 and left with a jerk.

I heard him exclaim
as he put it in gear.

“You’ve got enough crap,
 I’ll see you next year!”

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas.  I will be back in a few days time.  Til then, take care and enjoy whatever festivities you are involved in.

Rushing Around

Yes, I am still doing the mad Pre-Christmas Dash!!!  The whole world seems to have an urgency about it right now.  Have I done this, don’t forget that and lists, lists and more lists of things to do.  It’s nice to get things crossed off, but I seem to find twice as many more things still to do…sigh.

Ok, off to do the last minute Christmas shopping.  I was hoping to put up some pics of my doggy.  Yesterday I spent hours, trimming her coat, bathing her and then finished using the clippers on her coat (she has VERY long hair) and clipping her nails.  She is beeeeautiful today 🙂  I have to still install the software on my camera…argh!  Will be working tonight so I am not sure when I will get those pics up.  Note to self…find reindeer antlers and take pic of dog.

The Mad Rush

Yes, today I braved the crowds to go Christmas Shopping.  What a madhouse central Geelong was.  Even getting a carpark at Westfield proved to be no mean feat.  Not daunted though I pressed on.  First on my list of purchases was to find a kris kringle gift for work.  I don’t know how many places I went to before I finally found what I was looking for.  Of course this task would have been made much easier had I known what it was I after in the first place LOL.

I love the fact that there are so many gift packages around at this time of the year.  I actually do enjoy the atmosphere as shoppers rush around trying to get everything done.

Next on my list was to finish some family gift purchases.  Thank goodness for gift cards eh?  It really does take a lot of pressure off and the recipient can buy something to their taste or needs.

I was planning on sharing some projects I made yesterday with you, alas I cannot.  Hmmm guess who forgot to take pictures..yep yours truly.  I won’t be able to share these items now as they were Christmas gifts that have left the premises.

Guess what Maggie bought herself for Christmas today?  A new camera.  Now to learn to use it properly and I will be one very happy lady.  A huge thanks goes to Brendan at Camera House here in Geelong for his expert advice.  I am now the proud owner of a DSLR camera.  I bought an Olympus e-520.  As soon as I got home from shopping I put the strap on it and put the battery on to charge.

Tonight was my work Christmas Celebration.  We went to the Sphinx for meal.  The food was scrumptious.  I had Chicken Camembere….simply divine!  I will have to go back again when I am familiar with my camera and take some shots of the Egyptian decor.  I can pretend I actually went to Egypt *giggle*

Ok, I am bushed and heading off to bed.  I have to get up and make some more Chrissy cards tomorrow and get them postal before going to work.  Hope your Christmas Shopping expeditions have been fruitful and you are not feeling too frazzled.  I am happy to report my shopping is all done.  Yay!

Anyone for a Cupcake?

Every now and again I get the baking bug.  My latest thing was to make cupcakes.  Don’t know why this happened, it just did.  Like an itch, I decided to scratch it LOL.  These are glittery cupcakes.  Cake with bling 🙂  Now to get some cupcake stamps to play with and I will be very happy.  See, I’m a girl of simple tastes.  Here’s a pic of the delicious little cakes.  Want one?

Ok, better go back to my studio now and create some more stuff.  I hope to finally post out my Christmas Cards tomorrow…I am so late this year.  See ya.

Another Eastern Bloom

Hi everyone, I have just arrived home VERY late from work.  Time to draw breath.  ahhhhh….that’s better.  I am sitting in the loungeroom watching the tree lights and finally having a drink.  I think I might just sleep in tomorrow…oh it already is tomorrow LOL.

Bali Flower Trio

Bali Flower Trio

I used Versamark ink to stamp up the small flowers on the Pomegranate cardstock base.  Then I adhered a piece of Bali Breeze Designer Series Paper.  Next I stamped the large flower from Eastern Blooms in Pumpkin Pie, Purely Pomegranate and Tempting Turquoise.  I cut these out and adhered them with Dimensionals to add some “lift” to the project.  I then used a sponge dauber to put some versamark to the centre of the flowers and added some heat n stick powder, blasted it with my heat gun to melt the powder, then sprinkled on some chunky glitter from the summer mini.  Another quick blast of the heat gun and the glitter is set in place.  Gotta love it when the glitter stays where it should be….on the project.  Thanks for looking.

funny, but when I think of Halloween I think of the Adam’s Family theme song LOL  I promised to share these pics with you weeks ago and never got around to it, so am playing catch up yet again.  It’s like digging out the family album and looking through and reliving events.

To recap, my neighbours had a birthday party with a Halloween theme and I made a few goodies for them.

Spooky Scene

Ok, so now the scene has been set.  The deck looked magnificent with fake spider webs, spiders etc.  They don’t quite have the same effect in the photo’s as they did in real life.

The Jack-O-Lantern was in the centre of the table surrounded by all the goodies.

Halloween Treats

Halloween Treats

I made bags of popcorn and used the limited halloween stamps I had at hand to make the toppers.  The spiders are made using punches and I put some “gold” chocolate coins inside them.  The kids loved them, so that is the main thing.  I’m hoping we will actually get at least one Halloween set next year as this had become a more popular theme in Australia in recent years.

Aren’t these just so cute?  I have seen these done a lot this year in the USA/Canada and loved to make them.  I must admit it took a lot of punching to make them all.  I hope you have enjoyed going back to Halloween tonight with me.

Tomorrow I have some up to date stuff to show you.  In fact I think it is time to share some new summer mini projects with you all.  Till then take care and remember….

Going Back in Time….

Filed under: Stampin' Up!, Vellum Projects — Tags: , , — maggie mathern @ 11:39 pm

to November when I went to Melbourne and joined some fellow SU Demos for a fun day out to the Melbourne Regional Training Day.  We get to be instructed in business ideas as well as watch other demonstrators show us some “wow” projects and do make n takes just like our customers do.  All in all a wonderful day of fun and fellowship with friends both old and new.  It’s always fun to put faces to names we have only known “online” previously.

I would like to share with you some pictures of the swaps I made and took with me.  It is yet another wonderful dimension to the day.  It is not compulsory, but a very enjoyable part of the day.  I always learn something new, whether it be a technique, a colour combination I would not have thought of or a design feature.

I love to use our Vellum Cardstock.  It is time I got it out and had another play soon.  Might even have to see if I can come up with a Christmas Card using it….hmm…ideas are already formulating in my mind.  I had better go and jot down my ideas and I will have a play in the morning before I brave the shopping centre to do some shopping.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas….

Don’t you just love decorating for the holidays?  I know I do.  You don’t have to have the best tree or decorations, just put something up and suddenly the whole atmosphere in your home is transformed.  After all these years it’s still a magical time to me.

The rain has been so welcome in our part of the world where we have been in drought and have had water restrictions for years.  I love to hear the sound of rain on the roof at night as I go to sleep.  Likewise, I enjoyed the sound of the rain on my studio window this morning as I cleaned up after creating the 12 days of Christmas projects.  I also managed to create a few more cards to send out this week to family and friends.  We may not see some of these loved ones all year, but at this time our thoughts drift back to them all.

I sit in the lounge room as I create this post.  I am by the fire and have the lights of the Christmas Tree sending a lovely glow around the room.  So strange to think we need a heater on at this time of the year.  I must say I love it though.  A white Christmas would be lovely 🙂  I would like to share with you a couple of photo’s of my tree and it’s decorations.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

I hope you get to enjoy the festive season with your loved ones however you choose to celebrate.  I’m off to make a nice hot choccy before I go off to have a sleep.
