Stampin’ Up® Convention – Brisbane, Australia 2008

Filed under: Stampin' Up! — maggie mathern @ 11:06 am

Well what a whirlwind the last few weeks have been.  It has been hard to come back down to earth since attending Convention and sharing all the fun with my demonstrator friends.  As well as being a wonderful time to learn new things and socialise…man was I exhausted on my return!!!

I along with several other demonstrators flew on Virgin Blue from Melbourne to Brisbane on Thursday 10th April to attend this event.  We met up at the airport early to be able to chat and in some cases, meet for the first time.  It is amazing to think of how many new friends I have made since starting my SU journey.  For that I will be eternally grateful.  I think we must have had a learner pilot…it took some getting off the ground…or maybe that was all the stamping stuff we packed LOL…and boy was it a bumpy landing too.  I’m always glad to get back on Terra Firma!!!!!

Convention was 2 very full days/nights of classes and make n takes.  Friday night was leadership training and Saturday night our Awards Dinner.  There were many amazing demos out there whom have done really amazing things this past year.  I applaud you all on your achievements, yes my hands were extremely sore by the end of the night LOL.  Some of my demo friends gave talks on workshops/recruiting and others demonstrated various techniques.  They ALL did an awesome job!!!!

I am sad to say my camera died on the Saturday night DURING the awards dinner…how typical is that?  I still have pics which I will be able to get onto my computer via the media port on my printer Phew!!!  However I won’t be able to take pics for a while as I won’t be able to rush out and buy a new camera just yet *cry*.  I guess this means scanning things to share for a while.  Sorry about that.  I am STILL getting my head around scanning and the correct file size/resolution.  *sigh*

I am happy to report our return journey was VERY smooth, for which this little black duck was very grateful!!!  At the Awards Dinner they announced that the next Convention will be held in Canberra on 1-2 May 2009.  I have already marked this in my diary.  It is exciting that SU is getting me around the countryside and seeing a bit more of Australia than I have every seen.

If you have read this far, I thank you.  It is a long post.  I promise to make some projects over the next week and get them up for you, along with some pics of Convention.  Hopefully give you all some ideas/inspiration.

The Day My Computer Died….

Filed under: Uncategorized — maggie mathern @ 9:20 am

How did we ever get by without one?  No Internet….my world came to a crashing halt.  So what did I do, I put my hubby to work to build me a new one…lucky me!!!  So now I am reconfiguring everything.  Where are the drivers for this..what password did I use for that…seriously, I am sooooo over it!!!!  I just want everything back where it was it the shortest amount of time.  Like yesterday LOL.

So what did I do instead?  Something I have been putting off for the longest time of course..and suddenly no excuses to do that any more.  I started to clean out my craft room and have done a total rearrange of the furniture in there.  Mostly mismatched office furniture and some preloved pieces from my mum’s.  Nothing designed for the purposes I have used them for of course, but that is another challenge *wink*  I am really lucky to have “my space”.  It is not perfect, but it is MINE!!!!  One day I will be able to decorate it…the walls badly need this after knocking out built in furniture some years ago.  Was planning on tackling that now, but the computer costs have put paid to that for the moment.

The great thing is..can always do this tomorrow…but…the decluttering has been done..whoohoo!!!

Poppin’ Pastels

Filed under: Tutorials — maggie mathern @ 1:32 pm

I have used this technique to create the card below.  This was inspired by a quilt cover design I have seen recently.  Inspiration is truly around us if we take the time to look/listen.

Each Day Provides

·        Whisper White Craft Stampin’ Pad

·        VersaMark pad

·        Sponge daubers or Sponges

·        Stampin’ Pastels

1) Stamp image.

2) Use sponge daubers or stamping sponges to apply pastel colour directly to ink.

3) Blow off any excess powder.   If you are using a 2-step stamp set, repeat this process.

You can set the pastels using a cheap aerosol hairspray, but this is not advisable for using on a scrapbook layout as it may be unsafe for your photos.

If you do use hairspray on your cards (personally I don’t), remember to hold the can approximately 30cm (12 inches) away from your project.
